Synopsis/ treatment

Target audience:                15-30 year olds – non gender specific. This is shown from the results of my questionnaire. I will also be making the BBFC rating of the film a 15.
Outline:                                    A teen, Lucy, has had a miserable high school life, being relentlessly targeted by bullies who physically, mentally and cyberbullied her, and one eventing she can no longer cope with the ill-nature of her situation and takes her life. These bullies finally begin to see the cause of their actions but vow to never tell anybody they were the reasoning for her suicide. One day, one of the bullies is going through her attic and finds an Ouija board and calls her friends (the other bullies) over to try it out. After a lot of scepticism, they attempt to communicate with Lucy. ~They succeed and Lucy’s spirit begins tormenting the other bullies. One by one, each member of the group is tortured by Lucy to get them to admit to the cause of her death. By the end of the film (not shown in the trailer) one of the members are left and inevitably tell Lucy the truth hoping it will seal her fate and keep her alive.

            Lucy:

She is the girl who was bullied and committed suicide – she is now as a spirit who is seeking vengeance and truth.
                                                                                                                                                  Main Bully:
                                                                                   16-18 y/o, female, student.
She finds the board in her house and is the last one left alive at the end.
                                                                                                                                          Other Bullies:
                                               16-18 y/o, mixed gender, students (3-4 members).
Take part in the bullying and then the séance. They are all tortured or killed.
Visual elements:

Mostly dark for majority of scenes will some candle lit shots, natural lighting will be used on the bully scenes. Dark blue tones will be used for the suicide.
                                                                                                                                                       Camera:
Lots of extreme close ups for the trailer. Handheld/ tracking shots will be used when going to Lucy’s room.
                                                                                                                                                        Editing:
Glitches will be used as transitions for some shots.
                                                                                                                                                        Setting:
                                                      School setting for the bullies, and their homes.
                                                                                                                                                                                                             
                                                                                  Actors:
                                                      Performing arts students; Smilte, Alyssa, Faye, Moses, Georgie, Ketsia

                                                      Ouija board, candles, fireplace, mirror, possibly knives (?)
                                                                                                                                                                                                         Costumes:
Prosthetics used for gore; makeup for bruising and cuts. The actors will wear ordinary, everyday casualwear.

Audio elements:

                                                      Free non-copyrighted music.
                                                                                                                                                                                               Sound effects:
                                                      Mostly diegetic sounds. Glitch noises/ effects will need to be used.

Rationale:                              It will make a good project as it helps to fit the criteria for what my target audience wants from a horror film. I plan to use thus project to develop my editing skills in particular as, for horror trailers, good editing is needed to distil the horror.

Constraints:                          There might be some difficulties with filming with the fire as it could be hazardous; extra precautions will need to be made and water will need to be nearby to put out any fires. There may also be issues with finding time to film as all of the cast/crew is in school and need to find time where everybody is free in order to film.

The purpose of a film poster is to show the target audience what the films is modelled on, who the film is made by and what is the film actually about which is the main foundation that posters are based on, to show the audience a demonstration on what the film will be. Mise en Scene Considerations

Props: Ouija board – this was a prop that needed to be made rather than bought. This was due to superstitions surrounding Ouija boards in general and the actors did not feel comfortable using a real, authentic Ouija board. Making the board required a level of skill with calligraphy due to the varying fonts needed for the board. There also needed to be some knowledge with the wood cutting and drilling machines to create the planchette. This prop will be a key focal point for the trailer as it is what the teens use to communicate with Lucy’s spirit. Candles – This is both a prop and a contributing factor to the lighting. These candles are going to be used for the séance scenes involving the Ouija board. They will be creating a dark and unsettling atmosphere.
