How To: Storyboards

Why do you need a storyboard?
  • Best way to share the vision. A visual aid- you are able to show how exactly you want the film to look through pictures rather than words.
  • Makes production much easier.  A storyboard sets up a plan for production, including all of the shots needed in the order that they will be laid out and how the visuals will interact with the script.
  • Saves you time. It helps to make the creation process go more smoothly.

How to make a storyboard:

  • Create the template
  • Add the script below each panel - write any dialogue that will be said and a brief description of the scene/shot. it should read like a comic book
  • Sketch the story- it doesn't have to be incredibly detailed.  Just provide enough visual detail to give an impression of what is happening. Show the characters in the scene, the framing etc. make notes about camera angles and movement, transitions between shots and other details that will come in handy during production and post production.
